Hands-On Avalanche Awareness Clinic with Mount Hood Institute, Northwest School of Survival, and KAF Adventures

Those who register will participate virtually in an online avalanche awareness session with CJ Svela and John Barkhausen on Friday evening and an in-the-field day on Mount Hood Sunday. During this clinic you'll learn decision-making based on avalanche hazard evaluation, travel and avoidance in avalanche-prone terrain, how to use transceivers, and avalanche rescue technique as part of this course.

John Barkhausen is a guide and outdoor educator based here in Portland. He's a true mutli-discipline guide, having lead trips sea kayaking, rafting, hiking, backpacking, skiing, rock, climbing, mountaineering, and even snow shoeing. Currently, he focuses on teaching skills to aspiring outdoors people, including backcountry skiing and avalanche safety, mountaineering and crevasse rescue, and rock climbing skills. He is also the Portland Program Director for Kaf Adventures, where he runs their Mt Hood Climbing program.

Friday: 2-hour virtual Zoom Meeting - link to join sent upon registration.

Sunday: 8-hour (approx.) in-the-field clinic on Mount Hood starting at 8am. Location will be announced during the Friday online training.

Registration is $175 per person.
