As a New Jersey native, Deb didn't grow up as a naturally outdoorsy person, with the exception of resort-snowboarding. Instead, she discovered her passion for the outdoors in college, her first adventure being an ice climbing trip to the Adirondacks. As it turns out, ice climbing wasn't quite her thing, but she did find a love for rock climbing. After a few years and some soul searching, she quit her corporate 9-5 and became the quintessential Smith Rock climbing bum. After wearing out her fingers pulling on nubbins she moved her home base to Portland and began to explore the PNW mountains and found a new love for hiking, backpacking, and big mountain adventures. After a summer of alpine climbing and forestry work, Deb has landed at the Mountain Shop to share her knowledge and passion for the outdoors with the Portland community.
