Mountain and Trail Running

Willie McBride

I grew up in (and love!) the city of Chicago but also had the privilege of traveling to rock climb from a young age with the support of two loving and supportive parents. The passion first began in a climbing gym at 10 years old and has developed over the past almost three decades to include mountaineering, trail running and ultra marathons, and increasingly demanding endurance events and self-planned adventures--both summer and winter--in mountains, deserts, and other wild places.

My goals include a trip to Death Valley for a few exciting objectives (trip report to follow), attempting a 50 mile winter traverse on the east side of Wy'east (Mt. Hood), R2R2R-alt route in the Grand Canyon, hopefully making it back to UTMB races to do the CCC (100k), the Lowest to Highest route (Badwater Basin to Mt Whitney summit) w/ fellow ambassador--and friend/business partner--Yassine Diboun, attempt to complete the Kokopelli Trail in Utah (140+ miles) in a single effort, and many other potential trips and adventures!

Athlete inspirations: Katlyn Gerbin, Kelly Halpin, Faith Briggs, Adam Edwards, Sean Thomas, Coree Woltering. Some "big names", some not; all incredibly inspiring.

Fun fact: I absolutely love to make pizza and have plans for some very special "pop up" style pizza parties!

Fav Adventure to date: This question is impossible to answer because we live in such an amazing place and are lucky to get to do so many incredible adventures!! That said, "hut-to-hut" style multi-day adventures, especially in the Alps, are tons of fun, like the 3-day trip Jeff Boggess (Trail Butter) and I did a couple years ago on the TDS route from Courmayeur to Chamonix. That was definitely one of my favorites!
